Crustaceans, before this month I didn't even know what it means. Crustaceans? For some reason it reminded me of crackling. And well, I think you could associate crustaceans with crackling ;). But okay, that was the first thing I learned this month. Crustaceans are one of the big groups of arthropods (the what? I need to work on my English biology ;)). They have crabs, lobsters, shrimp, and barnacles (yeahh then I knew what we were talking about). You'll find all of them living in the water or in very wet environments. So when I figured out what we were looking for, I started drawing the ones that appealed most to me. Did you know that pillbugs are crustaceans too? Well, I surely didn't think of them when I was starting to draw haha.

'Crustaceans', toen ik het woord voor het eerst las dacht ik wel even 'huh?? wat moet ik nu toch gaan tekenen?'. Maar na wat onderzoek kwam ik erachter dat het het Engelse woord voor 'schaaldieren' is. Onder andere krabben, kreeften en garnalen vallen hieronder. Maar ook de pissebedden blijken familieleden te zijn. Nu zijn die laatste niet het meest aantrekkelijk om te zien dus ik heb er voor gekozen om meer te focussen op de krabben en kreeften ;). 

I started sketching some crabs and lobsters and making some patterns (that was the other part of the assignment). At first my patterns were mostly about flowers, I just love drawing flowers and making patterns with them. But when we got the real assignment I decided to give my pattern a more 'sea-life' feeling and I used some stylized coral for my final design. With the assignment Lilla gave us a beautiful color pattern idea with sea glass and pottery. I based my color scheme on that idea.

Ik ben dus ook begonnen met het schetsen van de kreeften en krabben. Daarnaast heb ik wat patronen opgezet (een ander gedeelte van de opdracht), waarbij ik eerst vooral uitging van bloemen. Maar bij het zien van de eindopdracht heb ik toch besloten om voor een meer 'zee-gevoel' te gaan en koraal te gebruiken als basis voor mijn patroon. Bij de opdracht zat ook een mooie foto met allerlei soorten glas uit de zee, die kleuren heb ik gebruikt als basis voor mijn eindopracht.

At the end of the month, I realized that I fell in love with crustaceans a little bit. I really don't want to think about eating them, but they're pretty cool to draw ;).

Aan het einde van de maand kwam ik erachter dat ik die 'crustaceans' toch nog leuk ben gaan vinden. Ik moet er nog steeds niet aan denken om ze op te gaan eten maar ze zijn eigenlijk best leuk om eens te tekenen ;).

After a few busy weeks I decided to give my website a complete make-over. This means that I've lost some of my content... But it also means I can start fresh now :). I've stopped the 'multilingual part' because I needed to maintain two (almost) different website and the comments were divided between the languages and it became a bit unorganized. So I'm starting over now, the languages will be 'mixed' on the blog now but everything will be in one place. I'm still not sure if I'll maintain two languages but on the other hand I know there are a lot of 'Dutchies' that rather read Dutch than English, so I think I'll just keep using both languages.

Na een paar drukke weken heb ik besloten om mijn website een make-over te geven. Hierdoor ben ik wel veel van mijn 'geschiedenis' kwijt geraakt... maar het betekent ook dat ik weer opnieuw kan beginnen :). Ik heb het twee-talige gedeelte eruit gehaald omdat het onoverzichtelijk werd met alle reacties die her en der verspreid waren én in het onderhoud waren het bijna twee complete websites om te onderhouden. Nu houd ik beide talen bij in één gedeelte zodat alles bij elkaar blijft staan. Ik hoop dat jullie het als lezers ook geen probleem vinden :). Ik heb lang getwijfeld of ik het Nederlandse gedeelte wel zou houden, maar omdat er toch vrij veel Nederlanders zijn die graag gewoon in het Nederlands lezen, houd ik toch beide talen erin. 

Okay, I'll admit that I'm running out of time on this one ;). I don't have much time today, but I really wanted to join a couple of more Winnie and Walter / Pinkfresh Studio challenges. So here I am with three more cards.

The first one is for the gold/aqua/neon pink challenge. I thought I didn't own anything close to neon pink so I started with the 'normal pink' patterned paper and added some gold embossing to the background with a stencil. For the aqua touch I added a ribbon and the flower. Then I found a couple of neon pink sequins and decided to add those too, to get a little bit more of the 'neon feel' into it.

The second card is for the moodboard challenge. I saw those pretty dresses and got inspired to make this 'pattern' of flowers for a wedding card. The flowers and the sentiment are from a Winnie and Walter stamp set. I added a couple of pearl drops to finish this card.

The last one is for the sequins challenge. I use a lot of sequins on my cards but for this one I wanted to make a little shaker element. My foam tape was running out so I had to run to the store today to be able to make this card ;). But now I can make shakers again :).
